A samurai holds his katana overhead in both hands - except the blade is your incense stick. It burns down the length of a 25 cm ash tray, so the ash lands on the tray and not on your shelf.

RONIN samurai incense holder — matte black 3D-printed figure holding a burning incense stick over a 250 mm ash dish

The Blade Is The Incense.

His hilt is bored through. Slot a stick into it and a raised katana appears in his hands, sloping down across the tray. There is no clip, no stand and no holder visible — the incense simply becomes the sword.

RONIN samurai incense holder

The Ash Lands On The Tray.

The tray runs 25 cm, the full length of the stick, and the blade angles down across it. Ash falls where the tray already is instead of onto the shelf, the desk or the mat.

RONIN samurai incense holder

The Sword Draws, Then Sheathes.

As the stick burns the blade gets shorter. The object is not the same at the end of the session as it was at the start — which is the reason to keep it somewhere you sit.

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW

Will my incense sticks fit?

The socket is 3.8 mm. Standard agarbatti — a bamboo core with masala rolled around it — drop straight in, as do most dhoop sticks. A thick cored dhoop batti above about 4 mm will not.

Does the ash really land on the tray?

That is what the 25 cm length is for. The stick sits in the hilt and slopes down across the tray, so the burning tip stays over the tray for the whole stick rather than drifting off the end of a short one.

Is the figure fixed to the tray?

No. They are two separate printed pieces and the figure simply stands on the tray. You can move him along it, or lift him off to clean underneath.

Is incense included?

No — you use your own. It takes the sticks you already buy, which is why the socket is sized to the standard rather than to something proprietary.

What about the heat from the burning tip?

The lit end sits out over the tray, well clear of his hands and away from the figure. The ember travels down the blade, so it never arrives back at the hilt.

Does it come in other colours?

Matte black is what we make him in. Both pieces are sanded and smoothed after printing, so the finish reads cast rather than 3D-printed.

Why does it take a little longer to ship?

Because each one is printed for your order rather than pulled off a warehouse shelf, and then finished by hand before it is packed. We start it as soon as the order lands.
