Eleven Plates. One Hidden Moon.

A hollow 115 mm sphere sits suspended inside a rounded-square shell of eleven stacked plates. The top plate is a solid cap, and the sphere is open only at the bottom, so light never leaves the top — it can only escape sideways through the ten open slots. That is what makes it glow like a moon rather than shine like a bulb.

The body is matte white PLA, printed and then sanded and smoothed by hand so no layer lines show on the plates. Unlit on a shelf in daylight it works as a small piece of sculpture — which is the point of a lamp you leave out all day.

Is it actually usable as a bedside light, or is it just colour?

Both. The remote gives you the full RGB range for mood, and a proper warm white mode that works as a real bedside light. Because the top plate is a solid cap, the light leaves sideways through the slots rather than upwards, so it lights the room without glaring at you when you are lying down.

How does it go together?

It drops in. Turn the lamp over, seat the LED puck into its printed cradle in the 64 mm socket in the underside, run the cable out through the notch in the base skirt, and stand it back up. There are no tools, no fasteners and no wiring to do.

Why does the sphere look like a moon?

Because of where the light is and is not allowed to go. The sphere is hollow and open only at the bottom, so the LED fills it evenly from below; the plates around it stay dark and the solid top cap stops any light escaping upward. What you see through the ten slots is an evenly lit sphere behind bars — a caged full moon.

Will the white plates show 3D-printing lines?

No. Every unit is sanded and smoothed by hand after printing, which is why the plate edges read as matte and continuous rather than ridged. It is finished to be looked at closely, because at 12 cm on a bedside table it will be.
